Update on Community Garden

So this is an updated photo of the garden as of July 15th. This is approximately 45 days after planting. We’ve had a few green peppers, a premature cucumber (I picked it too early), a few (like 5 ) green beans and one jalapeno. We have LOTS of tomatoes, but they are all still green. We have lots of stuff getting ready to pop out… but not quite ready. I tell you, it’s been lots of fun and I already know what I will omit and or add for next year!

So… we cleared out the ivy in a 6′ x 12′ (approximately) area. That was a lot of work. That ivy just roots everywhere and by the way, it chokes anything in it’s path. Next we turned and added new soil which was fun because it made me feel like I was deeply rooted to the earth.

In our little garden, I planted 4 different types of lettuce, kale, red peppers, green peppers, jalapeno peppers, summer squash, zucchini squash, broccoli, cucumbers, strawberries, tomatoes, grape tomatoes, basil, rosemary, parsley and thyme.

My friend Denise suggested I add the cement blocks in the center of the garden so not only will it allow me to walk through the plants to weed, but will also keep the weeds down! Thanks for that great idea Denise!

With all the plants in the ground, I hope all the sunshine, water and love the garden gets will be enough for all the plants to grow and produce beautiful fruit and vegetables!

I will keep you posted…
